GS1 US is now accepting nominations for the GS1 US Apparel & General Merchandise Awards, which recognizes supply chain excellence in the retail and apparel industries. The industry awards will be presented at a networking and awards reception during GS1 Connect 2013 on June 11, 2013 at the JW Marriott, San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa in San Antonio, Texas.
The GS1 US Apparel & General Merchandise Awards, previously the Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions (VICS) Collaborative Commerce Achievement Awards, will accept nominations from a team, department, or a trading partner for their efforts in bringing innovation to supply chain collaboration in the following categories:
Retailer Excellence - presented to a retail company that has developed or adopted GS1 Standards-based internal applications, processes, and supply chain best practices that have resulted in enhanced efficiency, improvements in customer service, reduced costs, or increased speed to market by working collaboratively with trading partners to create true end-to-end supply chain integration.
Brand Excellence - presented to a consumer goods manufacturer or wholesale distributor that has developed or adopted GS1 Standards-based internal applications, processes and supply chain best practices that have resulted in enhanced efficiency, improvements in customer service, reduced costs, or increased speed to market by working collaboratively with trading partners to create true end-to-end supply chain integration.
Provider Excellence - presented to a third-party services or systems provider that has developed and/or implemented GS1 Standards-based solutions, offerings, and supply chain practices that have proven to be cost-effective, improved trading partner integration, and resulted in supply chain improvements.
GS1 US is also accepting nominations for the 2013 Roger Milliken Career Achievement Award, which is presented to an individual who has demonstrated leadership through selfless support and utilization of GS1 Standards, as well as standards committee participation. John Thompson, senior vice president & general manager, Best Buy, received the 2012 award. The deadline for submitting all nominations is May 15, 2013.
Nominations are open to retailers, manufacturers, suppliers, and technology providers. Nominations must include a business challenge, business answer, technological innovation, measurable percentage-based ROI, time frame, level of difficulty, and benefits. Awards finalists for each category will be notified prior to GS1 Connect 2013 and will be invited to the networking reception and awards presentation.
The GS1 US Apparel & General Merchandise Awards were first introduced 16 years ago by VICS. GS1 US and VICS merged in September 2012 to streamline the standards adoption process for the industry and give members access to standards for a broader rangeof supply chain functions. The awards are supported by the GS1 US Apparel & General Merchandise Initiative, which serves to provide the education, training, tools, and community support that apparel and general merchandise retailers and brands need to implement GS1 Standards. These standards also make it possible for companies to follow their products from the source to the consumer — ensuring that the right product is in the right place at the right time for today’s shopper.
