Hundreds of Spar stores throughout the UK are converting their fluorescent lighting to LED fittings.
The owners and operators of 130 Spar franchises in Northern Ireland and Scotland are installing the Nualight Blaze LED fixtures into their stores, after Cross Group - distributors of Nualight - won a tender process. The Cross Group claims this is the first convenience store LED retrofit roll-out in Europe.
In addition, the owners of more than 1,000 Spar stores across England and Wales have also committed to rolling out the Nualight Blaze product. A. F Blakemore & Son will offer the fitting to independent store owners in its network through its shop-fitting company Blakemore Design & Shop Fitting. A. F Blakemore & Son employs more than 7,500 people and has a turnover of more than £1 billion.
The roll-out means that a typical Spar store will save around £3,500 per year in energy, lamps and maintenance over the eight-and-a-half year lifetime of the installation.
The Northern Ireland and Scotland stores are owned and operated by the Henderson Group and CJ Lang & Son Limited. John Rough, property controller at CJ Lang, said: "The bottom line is we opted for the Cross Group / Nualight offering because it will help us meet both our business and environmental objectives."
