Tata Power and Osram India Joint LED Light Initiative Lowers Tube Prices to US $1.62

Tata Power announced it has launched a LED tube light initiative in partnership with Osram India and other equipment manufacturers in Indian city Mumbai, reported The Hindu.

Under the initiative program, consumers can purchase five residential LED tube lights for INR 525 (US $8.11), about half of the current average market price of INR 1,325. This is roughly equivalent to selling the tube lights at INR 105 per bulb or about US $1.62 each, which is priced near the Indian government's targeted pricing of selling LED lights at below US $1.

According to Tata Power’s statement released on The Bombay Stock Exchange the program is part of its Demand Side Management initiative to promote the proliferation of LED technology usage in households.

A 40W tube light can be replaced with a 22W LED tube light, and the products delivered would have an exclusive three year warranty on the LED tube light, according to the statement.
