Indian vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is planning to launch its new compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), Quanto, in the second half of September 2012 in the country.
Quanto will be powered by a 1.5 litre diesel engine and will be based on the Ingenio platform, which is shared with the Xylo multi utility vehicle (MUV).
The company claims that the new SUV, which will have a length of less than 4 metres, will be the smallest vehicle in the category for its Indian product portfolio.
M&M Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors president Pawan Goenka said with the Quanto, Mahindra is aiming to fill a need gap in the Indian automotive market for a versatile and compact SUV.
"We expect the Quanto to offer an exciting upgrade at a premium to customers who are otherwise looking for premium diesel hatchbacks or entry level diesel sedans," Goenka said.
