Taiwan-based sapphire ingot growing firm Acme has announced a 120KG crystal ingot growing furnace that can produce sapphire substrates for large-size LEDs. Acme incepted the sapphire ingot growing technology from Europe-based Kyropoulos. Acme currently has the technology to internally produce 20, 30, 70, and 90KG ingot growing furnaces to produce 2-, 4- and 6-inch sapphire ingots. Acme indicated that LED lighting applications will move toward using large-size substrates, hence the 120KG ingots will suit the demand. The new furnace will be the focus of Acme's development. The firms that supply sapphire ingot growing furnaces include US-based GT Advanced, Thermal Technology, and ARC-Energy. Source: www.digitimes.com
