Eco Health of Chatsworth, California is recalling its florAlign prebiotic formula powder due to possible salmonella contamination, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The following quantities of florAlign prebiotic formula powder are being recalled - 60 units of 90g, 40 units of the 180g, 174 units of the 270g packs.

Eco Health said that the recalled product was distributed to the customers across the US between June 2011 and August 2012 through mail order, internet and direct delivery.

The recalled products bear UPC code #FA02-90GM, #FA02-180GM, and #FA02-270GM respectively.

The product was manufactured by Northridge Labs which is owned by Irwin Naturals and the company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as it is continuing the investigation to find out the reason behind the problem.

Eco Health advised the customers to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. There have been no reported reactions associated with the consumption of the recalled product.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacterium may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may result in serious and sometimes deadly infections.
