Trade Resources Industry Views Interconnector Pipeline Is Nominated to Ship a 'Massive Record High' of Gas From Belgium

Interconnector Pipeline Is Nominated to Ship a 'Massive Record High' of Gas From Belgium

The Interconnector [IUK] pipeline is nominated to ship a "massive record high" of gas from Belgium to the UK Tuesday, Platts' unit Bentek Energy said, following supply disruptions which drove a large price premium for UK gas Monday.

"IUK is nominating 71.4 million cubic meters/day," an analyst at Bentek Energy said.

"That would be a massive record high."

Prior to that: "The highest recorded daily reverse flow (import mode to UK) was 511 GWh (equivalent to 16.4 billion cubic meters/year) [about 47 million cu m/d] on February 22, 2006," the IUK company says on its website.

It was not available for immediate comment.

As a result of the increased flows -- which were up from an average of 28 million cu m/d on Monday -- the UK gas system opened up 38 million cu m long Tuesday morning, a market analyst said.

The discount for day-ahead gas on Belgium's Zeebrugge hub to the UK's NBP hit a seven-year record Monday at 7.50 pence/therm after UK spot gas prices surged above 100.00 p/th.

An unplanned outage caused by power supply problems cut output from Norway's Nyhamna gas processing terminal Monday, Norway's gas export system operator Gassco said.

The terminal processes gas from the giant Ormen Lange gas field and is a key supplier for the Langeled pipeline for transport to the UK which left the country very tight Monday.

Output was expected to be restricted by 53 million cu m/d during the gas day Monday, and by 37 million cu m/day during the gas day Tuesday and Wednesday, Gassco said on its website.
