Trade Resources Industry Views FDA Clearance for New Monthly Disposable Contact Lens Is Obtained by Bausch + Lomb

FDA Clearance for New Monthly Disposable Contact Lens Is Obtained by Bausch + Lomb

Bausch + Lomb, a subsidiary of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, has obtained marketing clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its newest frequent replacement silicone hydrogel contact lenses made with MoistureSeal technology.

The company claims that these contact lenses offers superior comfort and vision with the frequent replacement silicone hydrogel technology, which combines a breakthrough material with new manufacturing processes.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals chairman and CEO J Michael Pearson noted the company is encouraged to receive this significant marketing clearance much sooner than originally expected.

"When paired with Biotrue ONEday - our premium daily disposable contact lenses launched last year - we believe this new technology will begin to build an improved contact lens business by providing contact lens wearers with unsurpassed comfort and vision throughout the day," Pearson added.

MoistureSeal technology is the latest vision care innovation from Bausch + Lomb and the company's other innovations include Biotrue ONEday contact lenses and Biotrue multi-purpose solution.

The new novel monthly disposable contact lenses are only available with a prescription from an eye care professional.
