XLIF Decade Plate Is Launched by Nuvasive in US

US-based medical device company NuVasive has announced the US launch of its XLIF Decade plate, designed to help facilitate a faster XLIF surgical technique.

In order to enhance rigidity and load sharing properties, NuVasive designed the XLIF Decade plate with four points of fixation and has improved the plate geometry.

NuVasive claims that this device is a comprehensive stabilization solution and offers uncompromised biomechanical characteristics.

The company has specifically designed the plate for the MaXcess IV retractor and CoRoent XL family of implants.

It is reportedly the latest advancement in intraoperative flexibility for a single-position, lateral, spinal stabilization and fusion.

Dr William Smith noted in combination with the CoRoent XL-XW 26mm wide interbody implant, the XLIF Decade plate was designed to provide enhanced stabilization following XLIF surgery.

"In many patients, the new plate design may enable me to eliminate the need for posterior surgery, and may offer a comparable biomechanical construct.

"This option could significantly reduce the O.R. time required for surgery for some patients and may allow my patients the benefit of a more rapid return to their normal activities," Smith added.

NuVasive will exhibit the XLIF Decade plate at the upcoming North American Spine Society conference in October 2013.
