Taiwan-based LED lead frame maker, I-Chiun Precision Industry, has been seeing revenue growth due to increasing sales of LED light bar modules for direct-lit LED TVs. Demand for TV backlights has been strong in the third quarter, and according to I-Chiun, revenues from TV backlight lighting bars has been reaching above 20% of total revenues, a significant growth compared to 10-15% in the second quarter. The growth is expected to continue throughout the fourth quarter, said I-Chiun.
In the past, 90% of I-Chiun's revenues were from LED lead frames. The firm began developing backlight modules for direct-lit LED TVs at the end of 2011. Shipments began to increase significantly in the second quarter of 2012 due to strong demand from China-based direct-lit LED TV makers.
The firm's second-quarter consolidated revenues of NT$1.56 billion, represented an on-quarter growth of 24.86% and an on-year growth of 20.09%. Combined revenues from July-August 2012 were NT$1.286 billion, close to 80% of total second-quarter revenues. Hence, it is likely for I-Chiun to see third-quarter revenues reaching NT$2 billion.
