Iran Has Not Withdrawn Its Candidacy for The Post of OPEC Secretary General

IRNA cited Mr Rostam Qasemi oil minister of Iran as saying that Iran has not withdrawn its candidacy for the post of OPEC secretary general in favor of any country. It is not true that Iran has withdrawn its candidacy for the OPEC's position in favor of Iraq.

Mr Qasemi an impartial team to evaluate candidates of Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia has been formed. Reiterating that Iran has nominated a candidate for the position. It is one of the biggest oil producers in the world.

To elect a secretary general, all OPEC members should reach consensus on a candidate but the members never arrived at an agreement over the Iranian, Iraq and Saudi nominees.

All the members agreed to keep Abdullah al Badri in its current position for another year in a bid to provide an opportunity for the team to study the case.

Mr said that during the 162nd OPEC meeting it was agreed not to increase oil production and maintain the current ceiling which stands at 30 million barrels a day.
