Japanese carmaker Mazda is planning to invest about $600m to build a new engine manuifacturing facility in Viet Nam.
The Dau tu (Vietnam Investment Review) cited an unnamed source as saying that the firm had asked local authorities to advise a suitable location for the new plant.
"The site may be in Ha Noi or one of its neighbouring provinces," the source said.
Vina-Mazda Automobile Manufacturing, Mazda's joint venture in Viet Nam, has unveiled a new facility in October 2011 to assemble Mazda sedans in Quang Ngai province.
Capable of assembling 20,000 units per year by 2016, the facility has been built with an investment of about VND750bn ($35.7m).
The successful completion of the project is expected to assist in development of an automobile industry that was yet to develop in the country, according to the newspaper.
