Philips Added New Distributors for The First Time in Nearly Two Decades

Late last month LED maker Philips Lumileds of San Jose, CA, USA said that, after restructuring its distribution channels, it had added new distributors for the first time in nearly two decades, driven by the needs of a rapidly growing customer base and to allow the continued, widespread expansion of its products and solutions into new markets.

Enhancing its EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) presence, Lumileds has appointed Silica (an Avnet Company, and the third largest semiconductor distributor in EMEA, with more than 600 staff and 39 branch offices) its new pan-European distribution partner. "We thank Philips Lumileds for their trust in the Silica organization in Europe and are looking forward to a long-lasting and successful relationship," commented Silica's president Miguel Fernandez.

For Greater China (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan), Lumileds has formed three new distribution partnerships, with Avnet Memec, WT Microelectronics and Yosun Group.

"Lumileds well complements our lighting offerings and we will continue to expand our portfolio of products so as to address our customers' needs," said Avnet Memec China's managing director Thomas Yue.

"This new partnership provides WT's customers with access to a broader range of high-performance LED lighting products," commented WT Microelectronics' chairman Eric Cheng.

"With Philips Lumileds quality and comprehensive portfolio of LED products plus Yosun's unique experiences in power, control, ESD and thermal technology, we are certain that Philips Lumileds and Yosun Group will create exceptional customer value," stated Philip Lee, executive VP, Yosun Group.

"Each of these new distribution partners will have full access to the products, services and people at Philips Lumileds," said Lumileds' CEO Pierre-Yves Lesaicherre. "Silica, the Yosun Group, Avnet Memec, and WT Microelectronics are now able to provide their customer base with access to the world's most comprehensive portfolio of application-specific LED solutions."
