New Facility Is Setup by JLR

Indian automaker Tata Motors' wholly owned luxury car maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is planning to set up a new assembly plant in Brazil.

Currently, the carmaker is in talks with Brazilian authorities about assembling its Freelander four-by-four SUV from kits imported from the UK.

JLR chief executive, Ralf Speth was quoted by Financial Times as saying that the company thought about setting up a plant or assembly line, but a critical mass of volume is needed.

"Therefore we are talking to government about how this kind of step can be made for a small company like us," Speth said.

JLR will plan to set up a plant in Brazil, only after securing assurance that it can manufacture required number of volume of cars.

Currently, the British luxury brand produces its cars at three facilities in the UK.

JLR reported 2.2% rise in the overseas markets during the financial 2011.

Commencement of completely knocked down (CKD) production is expected to take a year and a half while fully fledged production could take another two years, FT reported.
