Huawei Has Become a Core Equipment Supplier of "The World's Fastest 4G Network''

Huawei Technologies has become a core equipment supplier of "the world's fastest 4G network," operated by UK's EE which will pay 1.5 billion pounds (US$2.3 billion) between now and 2017, China's biggest telecommunications equipment maker said yesterday.

The upgraded 4G network speed will hit 400 megabits per second (Mbps), triple the current 4G speed based on a demonstration in London's Wembley Stadium held by Huawei and EE, which operates the biggest 4G network in Europe.

Comparatively, the average speed of China Mobile and China Unicom's 4G networks is about 100-150Mbps.

Based on the LTE-Advanced or 4G Plus technology, the upgraded 4G network meets consumer demand for quality music and seamless high-definition video.

"It's video, video and video, mainly on sports and entertainment (on smartphone)," said Mansoor Hanif, development director of EE, citing the biggest demand of 4G users.

EE has 7.7 million 4G users, and its 4G coverage extends to 510 towns and cities or 80 percent the UK population. EE aims to cover more than 90 percent of the country under the 1.5-billion-pound upgrade.
