Veolia Water Will Supply a Complete Boiler Feed Water System to Valero Energy's St

Veolia Water will supply a complete boiler feed water system to Valero Energy's St. Charles refinery located in Norco, Louisiana, US. The treatment system will incorporate Veolia's patented ACTIFLO Turbo clarification technology to treat water from the Mississippi River. Clarified water from the plant will be used for cooling tower make-up, service water and as supply water for the new high purity boiler feed water treatment system. The boiler feed water treatment process includes multimedia filtration and sodium zeolite ion exchange softening, followed by reverse osmosis membrane that polishes the water to a high level. The system will produce over 1, 300 gallons per minute of high purity water used for make-up to steam boilers and the steam methane reformer, which produces hydrogen for refinery operations. Valero Enegry outlined a small footprint, an ability to treat the increase in flow rate and ease of installation as reasons for choosing the ACTIFLO Turbo technology for the Louisiana refinery. The company has also awarded Veolia two additional contracts for its refineries in the Gulf Coast region, one for providing additional clarified water and one for supplying boiler feed water. All three facilities contracted by Valero Energy are scheduled to be operational in 2013. Source: water-technology
