GSK Announces New Online System to Share Patient Level Data From Its Clinical Trials

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced the availability of new online system to share patient level data from its clinical trials with researchers as part of its commitment to transparency.

The new online system available on gsk.com enables researchers to access the detailed trial data that helps with more scientific understanding and patient care improvement.

Researchers should provide a scientific protocol with an assurance to publish their findings to gain access on the password protected website.

The research proposals made through the system will be reviewed by a panel of independent experts appointed by the company.

GSK pharmaceuticals R&D president Patrick Vallance said, "Consistent with good scientific practice, researchers will be required to submit a research plan and to commit to transparency in the publication of their work."

An independent third party is expected to run the system.

After the regulatory approval of the medicine or the termination of its development activites, acceptance of a study for publication along with the studies that do not progress to publication will be included in the system.

Global studies conducted since 2007 are already included in system to which over the next two years global studies along with studies starting in or after 2013 will be added.
