The Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA)has warned the public not to consume some of the peanut butter products produced by US food company Sunland,as they may be contaminated wtih Salmonella.
This recall is related to the expanded peanut butter product recall in the US by Sunland due to possible Salmonella Bredeney contamination.
The products subjected to the recall are PureFit Peanut Butter Crunch bars and PureFit Peanut Butter Crunch bearing UPC codes 8 12787 00100 8,8 12787 00200 5 respectively.The recall also includes Sunland Raw In Shell Peanuts.
The importers and retailers are voluntarily recalling the affected products from the market,while the CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
No illnesses associated with the consumption of the product have been reported in Canada.However,there are confirmed Salmonella Bredeney illnesses in multiple states in the US.
Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella may cause Salmonellosis,a foodborne illness.Salmonellosis may lead to serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children,the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
