A new style of tray which promises to make it easier and safer for waiting staff to carry and deliver drinks and food to tables has been launched in the UK.
Product details:
Launched at Hotelympia earlier this year,Safetray looks like a normal tray when carried but offers more stability to those carrying it due to the inclusion of a retractable clip underneath. The clip slips between the middle fingers of waiting staff so they have more stability when both carrying it and delivering food and drink from it to the table.
Made of polypropylene and high-grade,wipe-clean rubber, the tray is also NSF listed and has a five-year guarantee.Trays can be washed in commercial dishwashers and the clip lies flat when not in use to allow them to be stacked.
USP:
The uniqueness of the trays comes from the retractable clip which makes them easier for waiting staff to carry.
Alison Grieve, creator of Safetray, came up with the idea after seeing far too many members of waiting staff struggle with trays and hearing about the incidents involved in using them."Unfortunately accidents are all too familiar, with more than 90 per cent of those surveyed saying they had seen someone else fall foul of a serving tray. When I thought about the huge amount of wastage businesses are faced with as a result of these accidents,I began looking for a solution and Safetray was born,"she said.
Price:
£15.99 per tray

Why you should buy it:
A recent survey by Iris Worldwide found that 23 per cent of waiting staff had burned or cut themselves while trying to serve drinks or food from a serving tray while a further 43 per cent said they had ruined a customer's clothing by spilling drinks or food on them,so if trays are regularly used in your business, they could be ideal to both protect customers and staff, but it also has other benefits.
"When servers are more comfortable with their tray, they can engage with customers better, including more eye contact, and therefore take better advantage of upselling opportunities,"added Grieve.
