The food retailer will offer its products in new colorful carry-out bags, fountain beverage cups and sandwich boxes with bold typography.

The company has plans to expand the new packaging to more than 36,000 restaurants across the globe throughout this year.

According to McDonald's, the new look is simple, fresh and consistent with the company's vision to be a modern and progressive burger company.

McDonald's is aimed at sourcing 100% of all fiber-based packaging from recycled or certified sources by the end of this decade.

Commenting on the development, McDonald's global marketing senior director Matt Biespiel said: "Every day 69 million customers visit McDonald's around the world and this new packaging will be a noticeable change. It was fun to join these ideas together and create playful pieces that connect our customers to the brand.

"We're proud of the progress we've made and initiatives like this are important to our customers who care about the planet."

Last year, McDonald's introduced a new packaging called McBike that can be latched onto the handlebars of a bicycle.

The McBike is made of recyclable cardboard and has room for a burger, fries and a drink. This bag can be hung over the handlebars by folding its sides.
