The Coal Producing State of Australia Increase of 1.6 %

In the week ended March 31, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.84 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the previous week ended March 24, in which a week-on-week increase of 29.24 percent in coal shipments had been observed.

In the whole of March, Newcastle port exported 11.95 million mt of thermal and coking coal. The port authority had forecast that Newcastle port would ship a total of 11.86 million mt in March.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
