Valeo India Pvt Ltd. works with most of the Indian automotive OEMs, with an emphasis on developing plastic parts for small cars. “We have developed critical components of clutches, starters, alternators in plastics. These products will be available to the Indian OEMs shortly,” informed P Gopalakrishnan, technical manager for plastics at Valeo’s India R&D Center in Chennai. Valeo has already localized multi-material injection part molding in India, making components with hard and soft plastics together. Valeo is also working on replacing metal engine cooling parts with plastics. “They would be launched shortly,” Gopalakrishnan said at New Delhi Auto Expo 2012. The R&D center in Chennai continues to develop specific entry-level products for small cars segments in high growth markets like India. The center employs 200 engineers and provides support to Valeo sites across the globe.
