Sidel has partnerd with Kortec to use its technology for the development of new light-blocking PET milk bottles.
The new multi-layer light-blocking (LB) technology will be used to develop a multi-layer and co-injected preform for the bottle, which is expected to block the light completely.
According to Sidel, the technology will allow the company to produce preform with three layers of PET, which comprise white layers on the outside and inside, and black layer in the middle.
The black layer, which is present in the middle, is a light blocking component that protects milk and other light-sensitive milk.
Sidel packaging project manager Naima Boutroy said the company has always looked to develop and implement new technologies.
"Our new bottle protects the product throughout its lifecycle in the package, from production through the supply chain to the consumer," Boutroy added.
Sidel was involved in the design and production of 1l bottles for milk, liquid dairy products (LDP), juices and other sensitive drinks and beverages by using the 25g preforms that were produced by Kortec.
The design flexibility of the new preform is expected to cut down the overall total cost of light-blocking packaging technology, Sidel said.
Kortec sales and marketing vice president Russell Bennett said the new PET package features white on the outside and inside, which provides total protection to the milk.
"This is a real breakthrough in packaging technology for milk and other light-sensitive products," Bennett added.
