North Star Packaging and Print announced the installation of a new Heidelberg Speedmaster CX 102 6 + LX UV press.
The state of-the art 6-color plus coating tower model features Prinect Image Control, Heidelberg's most advanced imaging system for closed loop in-line color measurement and control. A Plastic Kit was added, which enables printing on diverse substrates such as plastic, synthetic and static-cling materials.
According to Neal Foster, CEO of North Star Packaging and Print, the CX 102 represents a major technology step forward, "In the past our presses have employed technology which reads only a color bar to manage color quality. The CX 102 uses Image Control which reads both the color bar AND samples color from the printed image. The result is much improved color management."
Image quality aside, Foster continues this equipment enhances company capabilities in other ways, "Over the past 24 months the number of projects produced requiring UV inks and coatings have increased dramatically. This new equipment will aid us in improving several key performance indicators we regularly monitor; predictable project completion deadlines, enhanced quality and operational efficiencies." The press is configured to run in both conventional and UV ink and coating mode.
Foster went on to express his optimism regarding the industry and the outlook for continued growth. "We see tremendous opportunities in the market for companies willing to strategically invest in automation. We continue to seek technologies and equipment like the CX 102 which enable improved quality and productivity." The installation of the press closely follows a recent expansion doubling company headquarters in Spanish Fork, Utah.
