Taking 37%share of global handheld shipments,Taiwan firmly leads the world,motivating the Ministry of Economic Affairs(MOEA)to select the smart handheld industry as one of the 10 Major Developing Industries,also promoting Taiwan as the global hub of smart handhelds.
According to MOEA,the government plans to assist operators to gather know-how of smart handhelds'key components and build Taiwan into the core global supplier of smart handhelds of the future,also establishing an innovative application trial center here.
The MOEA plans to help the industry enhance key technologies for smart handhelds.With R&D(research and development),industry-school collaboration,and integration of software,hardware and application service,the government will promote the combination of cloud computing among private and governmental bodies to engage in advanced application services in the future.
The production value of smart handhelds'supply chain in Taiwan may reach an estimated NT$1.28 trillion(US$42.66 billion)by 2015,and as high as NT$1.55 trillion(US$51.66 billion)by 2018 and NT$1.68 trillion(US$56 billion)by 2020.
This program could enhance competitiveness and global lead of Taiwan's smart handheld industry,as well as create about 150,000 jobs here in the future.
