Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the subsidiary of Daimler has begun the production of the 25t BharatBenz trucks at its Oragadam plant near Chennai, India.
The company will start selling its first product, the 2523 Heavy Duty Truck from September 2012 which is based on the Mercedes Benz Axor platform and will produce 230hp output.
Diamler said between now and 2014, the company will launch a total of 17 models, wrapping the complete weight segment from the initial six to 49t gross vehicle weight (GVW).
Under the phase-I plan, about 70 dealerships will be in operation to sell and service the BharatBenz trucks.
