Bangladesh PM Has Urged Brazil to Increase Its Imports of Garments and Jute Products

Bangladesh Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina has urged Brazil to increase its imports of readymade garments and jute products from the country.

The request was made during a recent visit of the newly appointed Brazilian Ambassador Wanja Campos Da Nobrega to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister’s Office, reports Bangladesh news agency BSS.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude towards Brazil for reopening its resident mission in Dhaka, saying Bangladesh was determined to renew its relationship with the Latin American country.

The Prime Minister and the Brazilian envoy discussed various issues of mutual interests during the Ambassador’s visit.

Ms. Hasina conveyed that trade relations between the countries would get a boost and major exportable items like apparel and jute from Bangladesh would find more market opportunities in Brazil.

The exports of clothing from Bangladesh to 11 non-traditional markets, including Brazil, soared by 28.75 percent year-on-year during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013. The garment exports increased to US$ 2.97 billion compared to exports of US$ 2.3 billion made during the previous fiscal.
