Belarus-Turkmenistan Plan JV for Cotton Products

Belarus and Turkmenistan plan to set up a joint venture to make cotton products, according to a Belarusian news agency BelTA. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich told the agency of the joint venture plan after a meeting with Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat recently.

“We are working on establishing a joint venture that will make cotton products. The decision will be made very soon,” said Myasnikovich. He claimed that the new project will greatly step up integration and manufacturing cooperation. The products will be made in Belarus to be sold in Belarus, Turkmenistan and other markets.

Turkmenistan had launched a $ one billion drive to expand its cotton industry just over three years ago and Belarus could benefit handsomely from the joint venture.

The Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus remarked that in December 2015 a large Belarusian delegation will take part in the festivities timed to the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and in an international conference to be held under the aegis of the United Nations Organisation.

“We have no topics we don’t talk about, there are no issues that we’d rather not discuss in our relations,” stressed Mikhail Myasnikovich. In his opinion, the goals the Belarusian delegation had set out to reach have been achieved.
