Constantia Flexibles to Close Packaging Facility in Romania

Constantia Flexibles is planning to close its plant in Bucharest in Romania in a bid to optimize its film-based flexible packaging, manufacturing footprint in Europe.

Expected to be finalized by July 2017, the manufacturing site closure decison will affect about 90 employees.

Constantia Flexibles Food Europe Division executive vice-president Stefan Grote said: “We will carry out this closure in a fair and socially responsible way, while at the same time ensuring that our valued customers experience no disruption in supply.

“The transfer of production capacities will also mean we can offer a dedicated plant concept to our customers in the long-term, thus optimizing order placement, production scheduling, logistics and quality.”

However, the firm plans to continue to operate large-scale plants in Weiden, Germany, Ankara, Turkey and Kleszczów, Poland to meet customers’ demands rom the confectionery and snack industries.

Constantia Flexibles’ Food Europe Division currently operate 12 production sites in eight countries. It serves the dairy, processed meat and confectionery/processed food industries.

The closure decision comes a day after the firm said it purchased a new printing technology for installation at its manufacturing site in Louvain, Belgium, in a bid to boost its pharmaceutical packaging business.

Constantia invested in new 4 color UV flexo press, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2017.

Constantia Flexibles is a manufacturer of flexible packaging products and labels for the food, pet food, pharmaceuticals and beverage industries. Employing more than 10,000 people, Constantia Flexibles operates 55 sites in 24 countries.
