New Cervical Cage System Is Launched by Medtronic in Europe

Medtronic, a US-based medical device manufacturer, has obtained the CE Mark and announced the launch of its new cervical cage system called Compact Cornerstone-SR Alliance.

Compact Cornerstone-SR Alliance cage system has been designed to treat cervical spine disc disease and the system provides stability during spinal fusion, which involves joining two bones together, such as adjacent vertebrae.

The new cervical cage system, which is compatible with existing spinal instrumentation, gives the surgeon a variety of implant options for different patient anatomies.

Medtronic has added additional features including titanium fixation spikes, beveled edge and side chamber in the new cage system.

The new system utilizes knowledge that is gained from Advanced Medical Technologies, which Medtronic acquired in mid-2012.

Medtronic Spinal & Biologics Western Europe and Canada vice president Steve Swinson noted anterior cervical spine surgeries remain commonplace and it's important to bring innovation to this market.

"With the addition of the CORNERSTONE-SR Alliance cage to our cervical Interbody platform, Medtronic continues to answer the surgeon and hospital needs of today," Swinson added.

The company's Compact Cornerstone-SR and Compact Cornerstone-SR Alliance products are available in Europe and are not commercially available or for distribution in the US.
