The Russian Plywood Industry Has Been Confronted with a Scarcity of Better-Quality Birch

12.12.2012 − Since October, the Russian plywood industry has been confronted with a scarcity of better-quality birch roundwood. Against that backdrop, mills have for several weeks been able to produce and offer only limited volumes of B-quality plywood. High-quality 5x10 ft raw plywood is particularly badly affected by the production restrictions. Importers and agents report that some smaller mills even had to shut down production completely for one to two weeks in November. Production volumes of B-quality plywood planned for December have already been sold. The import trade also reports that there are currently frequent cases of outstanding deliveries which had been promised for November. The affected importers are reckoning that those consignments will be delivered in December and that at the same time at least some deliveries promised for December will be postponed until January.
