Oil and gas company Total has developed a new bimodal high density polyethylene, XSene 55060, to address the demands of the industrial packaging market.
The next generation 55060 is based on the company's XSene technology and has been designed to offer increased rigidity and therefore to reduce weight.
Claimed to be an advance in downgauging for the industrial packaging market, XSene 55060 meets the industry need for easier processing, better performances and lighter weight solutions.
Due to the reduction in raw materials use and lower extrusion temperatures, the polyethylene is also said to offer the benefit of increased sustainability.
Total's dual loop technology enables versatility in product design, bringing a combination of improved product qualities, which include consistent processing on standard extrusion lines, cycle time reduction and lower extrusion temperatures.
According to the company, the stress crack resistance offers resistance to aggressive chemicals and allows downgauging up to 10% versus comparative materials.
The company proposed its XSene 55060 for AST Kunststoffverarbeitung, a plastic containers and drums producer for the chemical, oil and food industry, which approached it to increase its product range to meet the demands of the chemical industry.
Total technical parts & consumer goods business manager Veerle Naets said, "The ability to transport even more aggressive chemicals in plastic packaging provides our customers with more opportunities for profitable growth."
