As part of the second India-Africa Forum Summit, 32 participants from six African nations including cotton scientists were trained at the Central Institute for Cotton Research (CICR) on 'Modern Cotton Production Technology' in India.
The Indian Government funded training program was part of the commitment made by the country to share its scientific and technical expertise with cotton growing countries in Africa.
Those who attended the training program are natives of Nigeria, Uganda, Malawi, Chad, Benin and Burkina Faso. They include Government officials, cotton scientists, entrepreneurs, seed producers and academicians.
The training program would help in increasing cotton production in six participating African countries and would also help in developing long term tie-ups between the participating countries, while opening gate ways for exchanging quality skills with each other.
The main objective of the training program was to make the participants get used to the current development in cotton production and experience the new production technologies.
