Smartphones will be big users of pico projectors for displaying videos and photos,according to market watcher GBI Research.
Pico projectors when integrated into smartphones can be used to display enlarged video and still photos on a wall or large screen.
The global market for pico projectors had revenues of around$490m in 2011,and this figure is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate(CAGR)of around 75%during 2011-2016,reaching$8.12bn in 2016,says GBI."It is widely expected that the increased use of embedded products in devices such as smartphones,digital cameras and gaming stations as well as the miniaturization of the high end projectors for professional use will lead to a substantial growth in revenues in the near future,"said the market analyst.Embedded pico projectors will also be integrated into notebooks,digital cameras and tablet PCs.By 2016,around 68%of all these consumer devices are predicted to use pico projectors.
Key suppliers are Texas Instruments,Syndiant,Microvision,OSRAM and Soraa.
"With an increasing number of pico projector applications,decreasing product costs and constant improvements in image quality,the future of the pico projector market looks bright,"said GBI.
