Turkey, situated at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, provides good opportunity for Galician companies, including textile firms. This was one of the conclusions drawn at the conference on “Turkey: A Good Opportunity for the Galician companies”, organized by Grupo Correo Gallego at San Francisco de Santiago.
The economic situation of Turkey is different from Spain. Moreover, 60 percent of Turkish citizens are under 34 years with the average age being 29, which guarantees young and qualified manpower, said Yasemen Korukcu, director of the agency to promote investment in Turkey, at the conference.
The Turkish official said that absenteeism in the country is 4.6 days per year. In addition, the unemployment rate in Turkey is only 9 percent, compared to 26 percent in Spain. Thus, there is a growing middle class, which results in significant increase in consumption.
The Turkish textile sector exports 50 percent of its production to the EU nations and it provides good opportunity for Spanish and Galician companies, said Armando Villanueva, director of the Istanbul-based Red Pexga, which helps entrepreneurs in their internationalization process.
Antonio Fontenla, president of the Galician management forum, defined Turkey as a major market for Galicia and added that there are options to broaden the existing collaboration between the two.
