German packaging solutions provider Krones has unveiled the new 'DecoType' technology for digital direct printing on containers and packages during an ongoing production operation.
The new technology has been designed to enable users print on uneven surfaces and is said to provide more scope for individualized design as against dressing containers in labels.
Claimed to be suitable for firms operating in the beverage, household and cosmetics sector, DecoType can be used for printing on empty plastic containers made of PET, PP or PE, either cylindrical or special-shaped.
Using the technology, which can achieve up to 200mm printing heights using UV inks, a picture template can be transformed into a printed image, the company said.
Variable data including barcodes can also be easily integrated all the way through for individual product tracking. The technology also features integrated printing units with ink supply and automatic pushbutton adjustment for easy change-overs.
Overproduction of labels can also be avoided using the technology, which also eliminates the use of label adhesives and reduces storage costs.
