Harvard Engineering Has Won a Queen's Award in The Enterprise Category

Harvard Engineering has won a Queen's Award in the Enterprise category for their wireless street light management system, LeafNut.

The system helps local councils in the UK cut energy usage and reduce carbon emissions, enabling local authorities to manage their street lights without having to switch them off completely.

Using the system, each individual street light can be securely managed over the internet with different lighting levels set for different times of the day.

It is claimed that the system will reduce carbon emissions by as much as 100kg for every street light.

Surrey County Council is the latest council to adopt the system and will deploy it across the region's 89,000 street lights. Commenting on the system Surrey County Council leader, Dr. Andrew Povey said: "This will be the largest scale introduction of this type of street lighting technology in Britain."

The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are awards for outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of Innovation, International Trade and Sustainable Development.
