With UPM ForMi, the Finnish company UPM-Kymmene, has launched a new composite material on the market consisting of 50% cellulose fibres and 50% plastic polymers. UPM ForMi will be marketed in German-speaking regions of Europe and in the Benelux countries by Tekuma Kunststoff. The two companies announced the cooperation on 31 August. According to Stefan Fors, director of UPM ForMi at UPM-Kymmene, the cooperation had already been started in June and the material presented in recent months to various buyers and launched on the market. Hard-shelled housings for the electrical industry and for domestic appliances are quoted as applications, and for some qualities it can also be used in the food and packaging industries. UPM-Kymmene produces the material at its Finnish Lahti location. Production started in January 2012 and is to be considerably expanded in the short term. Source: euwid-wood-products
