Dean Naylor, plant manager of Graphic Packaging in Leeds, said the makeready and running speed, colour quality and overall production control were all factors in the decision to buy the Speedmaster XL145-6+LX.
Logistics material handling is built around the press to take pallets of board in and finished work away from the press.
Heidelberg said this replicates the XL 105 and it also reduces the physical and manual aspect for the operators which results in health and safety benefits.
The XL 105 featured Image Control but on the XL 145 press Graphic Packaging has opted for Inpress Control, which will automate the register and colour control.
Color Assistant Pro allows the company to calibrate to ensure consistent and repeatable colour, vital in a brand conscious market.
“We looked at other options but our experience with the existing XL 105 and the performance it has given us over the last six years, coupled with the technological developments on the XL 145, were convincing reasons for going again with Heidelberg,” said Naylor.
“Inpress Control will speed up makeready, reduce waste and enhance quality. Quality is something we are able to market and offer to all our customers in the packaging sector. We have the added benefit of Color Assistant Pro. Customers value their brand and expect quality and colour as a prerequisite.”
