U.S. rail intermodal traffic declined 5.7% in the week ended Feb. 15 compared with the same week last year, the Association of American Railroads reported.
Railroads moved 236,625 intermodal trailers and containers that week, AAR said Feb. 20 in its weekly report.
Rail carload volume, which excludes intermodal units, fell 2.9% in the week year-over-year, to 270,632 carloads.
Two of the 10 commodity groups AAR tracks increased over last year, grain (4%) and petroleum and petroleum products (7.9%). Commodity decreases included nonmetallic minerals and products (10.6%).
For the first seven weeks of the year, intermodal volume has increased 0.1% from the same period last year to 1,666,024 units.
