Australia Argues The Law Was a Well-Considered Measure for Achieving a Legitimate Objectiv

Australia objected to Ukraine’s request to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), to set up a panel to hear a dispute on Australia’s plain cigarette packaging rules.

Though Ukraine has not much of cigarette trade with Australia, it is the site of a Philip Morris International subsidiary, according to Packaging News.

According to Ukraine, Australia's law requiring that all cigarettes must be sold in plain packets is an obstacle to trade.

But, Australia rejected the request, arguing the law was a well-considered measure for achieving a legitimate objective, which is the protection of public health.
