The Indian Council of Agricultural Research(ICAR)would investigate the issue related to developing Bt cotton from a gene patented by a US firm,raised by the Sopory panel,S Ayappan,director general of ICAR has said.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of a function organized as a part of the centenary celebrations of Sugarcane Breeding Institute in Coimbatore,Mr.Ayappan said the ICAR would look into the issue raised by the Sopory panel report.
Recently,a committee led by SK Sopory,vice chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University,released a report which blamed ICAR scientists for developing Bt cotton from Monsanto patented gene.The report says ICAR scientists presented the Bt cotton variety as India's indigenous cotton variety.
