Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) is recalling nearly 780,000 of its vehicles sold in US to resolve rear suspension issues, which could arise when taken in for maintenance.
According to the carmaker, the recall affects its RAV4 vehicles manufactured between 2006 and early 2011 and Lexus HS 250h vehicles manufactured in 2010.
Toyota said if nuts on the rear suspension arm are not tightened correctly during a rear wheel alignment service, which could form rust and lead to wear, further causing separation of the arm.
Subsequently, Toyota will inspect the tightened nut on the recalled vehicles to assure their compliance with the proper torque specification.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, during their defect investigation into a similar problem with Toyota RAV4 models manufactured between 2006 and 2008 found that the rear suspension arm assembly may fail due to corrosion, which could lead to loss of vehicle control.
The federal agency had earlier said that it was investigating nearly 460,000 RAV4s sold in the country.
