Home Variable Positive Airway Pressure (VPAP) Device Is Launched by Resmed in US

ResMed has launched its home variable positive airway pressure (VPAP) device in the US for the treatment of respiratory disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Used at night, VPAP COPD device helps the patients to maintain their ventilation when they face a problem in breathing and allows an extended exhalation.

ResMed's VPAP COPD devices make bilevel therapy accessible through Medicare's Respiratory Assist Device qualifying guidelines.

ResMed Respiratory Care business unit president Geoff Neilson said that many stage3 or stage4 COPD patients are hospitalized two to three times a year and hospital discharge planners need ways to reduce that figure with better at-home respiratory care.

"Minimizing the likelihood of acute events that lead to readmissions starts at the point of discharge, sending patients home with the best tools like ResMed's VPAP COPD to help them breathe better when their lungs have been damaged by the disease," Neilson added.

Built on the popular ResMed S9 Series platform, the VPAP COPD device can help overcome air trapping in COPD patients and enables better gas exchange in their lungs.

The VPAP COPD device may be wirelessly connected to ResMed's secure, cloud-based EasyCare Online monitoring system.

The company has also developed ClimateLine tubing between the humidifier and mask, which has an oxygen line port next to the VPAP COPD device.
