Fiat 130 Coupe Re-Imagined by Original Designer

Legendary Italian designer Paolo Martin has penned a re-interpretation of his fabulous Fiat 130 Coupe from the 1970s, combining the spirit of the original with the needs of today’s customers.

Martin designed both the interior and exterior of the original 130 Coupe after becoming chief of the styling department at Carozzeria Pininfarinia in 1968.

The car was lauded for its good looks along with some of the most advanced technology of its day including four-wheel independent suspension (torsion bars up front and coil springs at the rear), standard ZF power steering and four-wheel disc brakes.

Besides the unique styling and cutting-edge mechanicals, the Fiat 130 also got a new 3.2-litre crossflow V6 engine with rubber-toothed-belt-driven twin overhead camshafts – developed for the model by Ferrari engine man Aurelio Lampredi.

As Martin explains, “While the 1970 version was bound by a multitude of technical and economic challenges, as well as issue in components use, today I would say that it is easier to build but much more difficult to enter a high-end market.

“I was tempted and intrigued by the fact that today the market demand for this type of car is growing,” he added
