The Hydraulic Institute (HI), under the approval of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is seeking qualified individuals to participate in the review process of a new guideline entitled Dynamics of Pumping Machinery.
This new guideline that describes and recommends the means to appropriately evaluate pumping machinery construction attributes and relevant site characteristics in order to determine the effects of dynamic performance on equipment life and reliability.
It describes and recommends various levels of detailed evaluation and validation that are commensurate with the degree of equipment uncertainty and application risk.
Rotodynamic pump dynamic response is the result of excitation forces sourced in the pump or its system, amplified or attenuated by natural frequency resonances (poles) or anti-resonances (zeros), as well as by how well the pump is supported by its foundation.
The influence and control of the excitation forces, natural frequencies, and foundation support will all be considered by this standard. Excitation forces consist of an amplitude and a discrete frequency (e.g. vane passing frequency) or a frequency span, and can be associated with either mechanical or hydraulic causes.
The scope of the document encompasses Rotodynamic pumps as referenced in the Hydraulic Institute Standards.
