Recent Solar Wafer Asps Have Been Stabilizing Around US$1.10-1.20/Unit

Since the beginning of fourth-quarter 2011, Taiwan-based solar wafer firms such as Green Energy Technology (GET), Sino-American Silicon (SAS) and Danen have been eager to clear out inventories. As the price of solar wafers stabilizes, industry sources predict the clear-outs will soon come to an end. According to industry observers, GET, SAS and Danen have been able to solve their inventory problem effectively. Recent solar wafer ASPs have been stabilizing around US$1.10-1.20/unit due to inventory clear-outs coming to an end. The firms have been reluctant to lower quotes, but rather are decreasing utilization rates to prevent growing losses. Industry observers further pointed out that solar wafer quotes from China-based solar wafer firms in the fourth quarter have been higher than Taiwan-based peers' showing eagerness by the latter to lower inventory levels. Despite solar wafer quotes moving toward stabilization, the current price of solar wafers is still too low for firms to make profits, added industry sources. Source: www.digitimes.com
