Taiwan Solar Firms Are Reportedly Considering Moving Equipment Back to Taiwan

Taiwan solar firms reportedly plan to move equipment back from China Nuying Huang,Taipei;Jackie Chang,DIGITIMES[Thursday 13 September 2012]China-based solar firms are currently facing anti-dumping investigations in the EU.Many Taiwan-based firms that have set up plants in China are also included as targets of the investigation.Firms such as Motech and DelSolar are reportedly considering moving equipment back to Taiwan.However,both firms have denied the rumors.

Motech currently has a 500MW solar cell plant in Kunshan,China.The firm's total solar cell capacity in Taiwan and China is 1,500MW.The firm also has solar wafer capacity of 500MW in Taiwan.

DelSolar currently has solar cell capacity of 440MW and module capacity of 110MW in Wujiang,China.The firm's solar cell and module capacity in Taiwan is 160MW and 70MW,respectively.Market observers believe DelSolar may be hit the hardest among Taiwan-based solar firms by the investigation as the firm has most of its capacity located in China.DelSolar indicated that there are no plans to move capacity back from China.

Tainergy,another Taiwan-based solar cell maker that has production capacity in China,noted that its capacity is relatively small,hence,the firm has no intentions of moving equipment back to Taiwan.
