Toyota Kirloskar, a joint venture between Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor and India's Kirloskar Systems, is planning to begin the engine production at its manufacturing facility in Bangalore, India in August 2012.
The JV will manufacture about 1,00,000 engines and 2,40,000 transmission units from the facility in Bangalore, according to PTI.
In 2011, Toyota Kirloskar had revealed that it would invest INR5bn ($89.47m) to build an engine plant and expand its transmissions unit to cater its Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback.
Toyota has already begun exporting its Etios and Liva and about 1500 units had already been shipped to South Africa from Ennore Port in Tamil Nadu.
