Mccullagh Uses Cellulose-Based Natureflex Films From Innovia for Packing Its New Coffee

McCullagh Coffee has used cellulose-based NatureFlex films from Innovia for packing its new Ecoverde Coffee brand. The film, which takes life as wood, breaks down in a home compost bin or industrial compost environment at the end of its lifecycle.

According to Innovia, the new compostable pack for the US-based roasting company's coffee brand has been constructed by using NatureFlex NE, which is transparent and heat-sealable.

NatureFlex films offer advantages for packing and converting including inherent deadfold and anti-static properties, better gloss and resistance to grease and oil, good barrier to gases, aromas and mineral oils and a heat-seal range.

Innovia claims that the films have been certified to meet the standards including the American ASTM D6400, European EN13432 and Australian AS4736 for compostable packaging.

Innovia Americas account executive Christopher Tom said NatureFlex portfolio offers various solutions for coffee packaging, from single ply through to multi-layer films to create laminate structures.

"However, we would recommend coffee producers requiring very long shelf life to use high barrier tri-laminate type structures," Tom said.
